As of January 2017, there are 58 businesses participating in the Monterey Regional Compost Program via Monterey City Disposal Services, Waste Management or Green Waste Recovery. They range from large properties such as the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula to small restaurants like La Balena in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Many businesses have found ways to remain cost neutral or decrease cost by increasing recycling and reducing trash volume.

Program Benefits Include:

  • Possible cost savings
  • Opportunities for green marketing (on menus and with a window decal we offer that you can request)
  • Compliance with AB 341 that sets a 75 percent state waste diversion goal
  • Compliance with AB 1826 that mandates organics collection
  • Ability to achieve other environmental certifications, such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Green Business certification, and Green Meetings Industry Council compliance
  • Feeling good about waste reduction and resource reuse!
