AB1826

California Assembly Bill 1826 requires businesses to recycle their organic waste based on the amount and type of waste the business produces on a weekly basis.  It went into effect in April 2016 and full implementation will be realized in 2019.

AB 1826 phases in the requirements for businesses over time based on the amount and type of waste the business produces on a weekly basis, with full implementation realized in 2019. The implementation schedule is as follows:

Date Requirement
4/1/2016 Businesses that generate 8 cubic yards of organic waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.
1/1/2017 Businesses that generate 4 cubic yards of organic waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.
1/1/2019 Businesses that generate 4 cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services.
